‘Renfield’ BTS Video Clip Highlights Nicolas Cage

Monday, first period: How To Talk Like A Vampire 101.

Renfield–the Universal Pictures feature that tells the bizarre story of Dracula’s famous lackey–will land in theaters April 14, 2023. And, to whet everyone’s appetite,  Nicolas Cage–who plays the vampire count in the pic–has shared his take on the unique accent. he will employ. Check out the video–courtesy of Variety–on this page.

As Cage explained the accent, it’s “kind of an amalgamation of a mid-Atlantic August Coppola accent, combined with Sir Christopher Lee–with some Anne Bancroft thrown in for good measure.” Thanks for clearing that up, Nic.

Renfield–directed by Chris McKay from a screenplay by Ryan Ridley–also stars Nicholas Hoult in the title role, Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Bess Rous and James Moses Black.

The horror-comedy–described as a “modern monster tale”–follows Renfield, “the loyal, tortured aide of Dracula, who has been forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding,” according to the logline.

But now, Renfield wants to find a life “outside the shadow of the Prince of Darkness–if only he can figure out how to end his co-dependency.”
