Break open the piggy bank.
In the horror genre, there are few things more prized by collectors than any item connected to the 1931 classic Frankenstein. So, the feeding frenzy that has started over an extremely rare poster from that Boris Karloff-led film should be fascinating to watch.
Heritage Auctions is conducting the bidding war for a 1931 Style A Frankenstein poster designed by Karoly Grosz for the next two weeks. Check out the poster in all its glory on this page.
The most recent offer came in at $77,500, but the collectible is valued at anywhere from $150,000 to $300,000. The poster–one of only seven known to exist–reportedly was discovered in a Pennsylvania attic.
Frankenstein–directed by James Whale from a screenplay by Francis Edward Faragoh and Garrett Fort (and based on Mary Shelley’s 1918 novel)–stars Karloff as the misunderstood monster and Colin Clive as Dr. Henry Frankenstein, an obsessed scientist who strives to assemble a living being from stolen body parts.
