Quirk Books to Resurrect ‘The Ultimate Evil: The Search for the Sons of Sam’

by Rob Caprilozzi

Quirk Books has announced that they will be bring The Ultimate Evil: The Search for the Sons of Sam back to shelves on April 20, 2021.

In August 1977, NYPD arrested one David Berkowitz, a serial killer who confessed to the Son of Sam murders that had terrorized New York City for over a year. Though police quickly closed the case, a journalist named Maury Terry became convinced that Berkowitz didn’t act alone. Terry gathered evidence for close to a decade following Berkowitz’s arrest, releasing his findings in a book called The Ultimate Evil: An Investigation into America’s Most Dangerous Satanic Cult in 1987.

In the book, Terry surmises that a Yonkers-based satanic cult masterminded the Son of Sam attacks, as well as other ritual murders across the country. These findings caused enough of an uproar for NYPD to briefly reopen the case, but Terry’s theories eventually fell out of favor, with the book going out of print but becoming a beloved cult classic for true crime lovers.

This brand-new edition features a foreword by documentary filmmaker Joshua Zeman (Cropsey, The Killing Season, and Murder Mountain, etc.), who bases his upcoming Netflix series The Sons of Sam (premiering 5/5/21) on the book.
