Quentin Tarantino is a big Bruce fan–the shark, not the Jersey rock legend.
The celebrated filmmaker (Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained) knows his movies, and he recently cast his vote for Steven Spielberg’s 1975 masterpiece Jaws as the best movie ever made
Tarantino–during an interview with CinemaBlend–said he thinks the first of the summer blockbusters is “the greatest movie ever made. Maybe not the greatest film, but it’s the greatest movie ever made. As far as a movie goes, there’s no making it better than Jaws. And it shows how badly timed most movies made before Jaws were.”
By way of explanation, Tarantino said that “Spielberg and a lot of his cohorts grew up seeing those kinds of movies in the theater–Henry Levin’s Journey to the Center of the Earth, Richard Fleischer’s Fantastic Voyage, Gordon Douglas’ Them!. He’s going to run and go see them.”
Tarantino added that Spielberg approaches his films with the attitude, “This is exactly the kind of movie he likes. This is exactly the kind of movies he was put on Earth to make. And he’s going to make it–within an inch of his life, as effectively as it possibly can be.”
And, as for the rest of those die-hard Jaws fans (and who isn’t?), the classic film will be available on both IMAX screens and RealD 3D starting Sept. 2. Close enough to count Bruce’s teeth.
