Who is the hunter…and who is the prey?
Prey–the upcoming prequel to the 1987 Predator horror-s/f classic–is almost ready to prowl. The film will start streaming exclusively on Hulu Aug. 5, according to a report on theplaylist.net, and a tantalizing teaser has been released. Check out the video on this page.
Prey–directed by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) from a screenplay by Patrick Aison (Jack Ryan)–is set in the Comanche Nation of 300 years ago, and is the story of a young warrior woman named Naru.
Naru has been raised “in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains,” according to the logline, “so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people.”
The prey she seeks–and ultimately confronts–“turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.”
Wanting to make a film true to the Comanche Nation, the filmmakers recruited a cast comprised almost entirely of Native and First Nation talent, including Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush and Julian Black Antelope.
The original Predator–directed by John McTiernan from a screenplay by Jim and John Thomas–stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of an elite paramilitary rescue team on a mission to save hostages in a Central American rainforest. Things take a turn for the worse with the entrance of the alien Predator (Kevin Peter Hall).
