Posters Hype The Intensity Of ‘Prey’ Prior To Hulu Debut

This battle royal is shaping up nicely.

Prey–the next entry in the Predator horror-s/f franchise–debuts exclusively on Hulu starting Aug. 5, and two posters recently dropped that show the primary combatants in contrasting styles. Check out the posters–courtesy of latestly.com–on this page.

One poster shows the new Predator in full warrior gear, ready for combat, while the other is a more symbolic depiction of the young Comanche warrior Naru leaping into the fray.

Prey has been referred to as a prequel to the original Predator, but director Dan Trachtenberg has explained that, in his mind, “this is not a prequel movie.” The film is “something that’s set prior to the original Predator,” he said, but it’s not an origin story.

This Predator, the director added, is “perhaps from a different hemisphere of the planet and a little bit of a different breed. I wanted the Predator to be scarier than we’ve seen it before.”

The R-rated 20th Century Studios film–helmed by Trachtenberg from a screenplay by Patrick Aison–is set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, and follows Naru, who has been raised with the warriors who roam the Great Plains, according to the synopsis.

When danger threatens her camp, Naru sets out to protect her people, but the prey she stalks “turns out to be a highly evolved alien Predator with a technically advanced arsenal.” The result is “a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.”

Prey stars Amber Midthunder as Naru, along with Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush, Julian Black Antelope and Dane DiLiegro as the Predator.
