Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer have gone on record as saying that Volume 2–consisting of Chapter 8: Papa and Chapter 9: The Piggyback–will be dark. Fans, they said, “should be concerned about the characters going into Volume 2. It’s a darker season, and the kids are no longer kids. So, everybody is in danger.”
Matt Duffer added that many fans feel this fourth season is scarier, “and I’m hoping they feel that way because characters are exposed and vulnerable in a way they haven’t been before as they move into this final fight with Vecna.”
