Giddyup, bloodsucker!
With all the reimaginings of Bram Stoker’s iconic 1897 Dracula novel floating around, having the Vampire Lord riding a horse in a Wild West setting is certainly original. And writer/director Chloe Zhao seems well on her way to filming just that.
The untitled Universal Pictures film–reported on here in Horror News Network last February–is described as an “original, futuristic, s/f Western” that deals with Dracula. Check out the Instagram post and photo on this page, courtesy of screenrant.com, that shows a character that bears a striking resemblance to Count Orlok (played by Max Schreck) from the 1922 classic Nosferatu.

Zhao–who helmed the recently released Marvel Studios Eternals–has dropped very few hints about the film’s storyline, but did say she has “always been fascinated by vampires and the concept of the Other they embody. I’m very excited to work with the team at Universal to reimagine such a beloved character.”
In addition to Eternals, Zhao has directed the critically acclaimed The Rider (2017) and last year’s Nomadland, which won Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director. Nomadland also was a box office success, earning $39 million worldwide on a budget of just $5 million.
