‘Pennywise: The Story Of It’ Set For Scary Summer Debut

by Thomas Tuna

“You all taste so much better when you’re afraid.”

Those were the chilling words from It (Pennywise, the Dancing Clown) to the members of the Losers’ Club in Stephen King’s 1986 masterwork It. And fans will learn much more about Pennywise this summer through a documentary hitting various VOD platforms, according to Deadline.

PennywiseThe Story of It–from directors John Campopiano and Christopher Griffiths–will be released through Cinedigm to such platforms as Apple, Prime Video, Google and VUDU over the summer.

The documentary includes interviews with many of the key players behind Pennywise, as well as “an exploration of what went into creating the It films–including casting, production and practical effects,” according to the logline.

Cinedigm chief content officer Yolanda Macias said the It miniseries “pushed boundaries and still has a lasting effect on the genre to this day. Even after three decades, the child-eating clown Pennywise scares audiences of all ages.”

Pennywise–an ancient and evil entity which preys upon the children of Derry, Maine roughly every 27 years–uses a variety of powers that include shapeshifting, manipulating reality and going unnoticed by adults.

The character was portrayed by Tim Curry in the 1990 TV adaptation It, and by Bill Skarsgard in the 2017 film adaptation and its 2019 sequel It Chapter Two.
