Peacock Lands Satanic Panic Horror Series ‘Hysteria!’

The devil made them do it.

Hysteria!–described as a “coming-of-age satanic panic thriller” series–is coming to Peacock, according to a report on Deadline.

Written by executive producer Matthew Scott Kane and directed by executive producers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, Hysteria! deals with the disappearance of a varsity quarterback during the Satanic Panic of the late 1980s, according to the synopsis.

Following that disappearance, “a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realizes they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a satanic mental band.” But then, a “bizarre series of murders, kidnappings and supernatural activity triggers a witch hunt that leads directly to them.”

There’s no word at this time about casting choices, a production schedule or a release window.

Lisa Katz of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming said Hysteria! “will explore the complex world of the Satanic Panic–set amid ’80s nostalgia, mystery, heavy metal and an all-American setting. We’re excited to partner on what is sure to be a compelling original series on Peacock.”
