It’s been an amazing summer for Patty Jenkins and Chris Pine. Wonder Woman, which was directed by Jenkins and featured Pine as Steve Trevor, became one of the highest critically rated superhero movies of all time and the highest grossing entry in the DC superhero extended universe by a long shot. Early rumors suggest that both Jenkins and Pine will return to collaborate on 2019’s Wonder Woman 2; but today’s breaking news means that they will now be working together much sooner than we could have expected!
Variety reports that Patty Jenkins and Chris Pine have both signed on for a project called One Day She’ll Darken on TNT. The pilot episode (and possibly more) of the six-episode miniseries will be directed by Jenkins, and Pine will star in all six episodes. Sam Sheridan (The Disaster Diaries) will write the series, which is based on a memoir by Fauna Hodel.
Fauna Hodel is the daughter of Dr. George Hodel (1907-1999), a suspect in the infamous murder of Elizabeth Short (who was posthumously named The Black Dahlia by the press) in 1947. George Hodel was briefly considered by police as a suspect around the time of the crime, and he has since become a more prominent suspect for armchair detectives around the world due to the Black Dahlia Avenger series of books, written by his son, retired L.A.P.D. homicide detective Steve Hodel.
Here is the synopsis for the upcoming series, as reported by Variety:
“One Day She’ll Darken tells the story of Hodel who was given away by her teenage birth mother to a black restroom attendant in a Nevada casino in 1949. As Hodel begins to investigate the secrets to her past, she follows a sinister trail that swirls ever closer to an infamous Hollywood gynecologist, Dr. George Hodel, a man involved in the darkest Hollywood debauchery, the spider in the web around the legendary “Black Dahlia” murder of Elizabeth Short in Los Angeles in 1947.
Chris Pine will play Jay Singletary, a paparazzi reporter who is initially disgraced over an early profile on George Hodel and looking for redemption. At this time, no other casting news is known.
There is currently no release date for TNT’s One Day She’ll Darken. Stay tuned to Horror News Network for more details on this exciting project as they break!
