‘Paranormal Activity’ Series To Continue By End Of 2021

by Thomas Tuna

Some of the uncertainties surrounding the Paranormal Activity franchise have been cleared up–in unexpected ways.

Paranormal Activity 7–which was reported to hit theaters in March 2022–will now bypass cinemas and debut on the new streamer Paramount+ “by the end of this year,” according to screenrant.com. No exact premiere date has been announced at this time, so stay tuned.

This most recent installment in the series–directed by William Eubank from a screenplay by Christopher Landon–will star Emily Bader, Roland Buck III, Henry Ayres-Brown and Dan Lippert. The film–from Paramount Pictures and Blumhouse Productions–is produced by Jason Blum, with Steven Schneider acting as executive producer.

The movie’s plot is being kept under wraps, but it reportedly will be “an unexpected retooling” of the basic storyline that has run through the franchise. Meaning, a family likely will be menaced by some sort of otherworldly entity, and the film will feature the familiar found-footage style of shooting.

The Paranormal Activity franchise–which started back in 2007–had its origins in the original film from writer/director Oren Peli, shot on a meager $15,000 budget. That investment paid off to the tune of an eye-popping $193.4 million bonanza at the worldwide box office.

Needless to say, that successful formula gave birth to a string of sequels and a spinoff film, winding up with 2015’s Paranormal ActivityThe Ghost Dimension–which has the dubious distinction of being the lowest-grossing movie in the long-running series.
