There’s always room for new blood in the vampire genre.
Blood Count–from writer/director Peter Ramsey of Spider–Man: Into the Spider–Verse fame–is on its way from Paramount Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Details on the live-action movie–said to be in early development–are scarce, but it is described as a “period vampire and film noir social thriller” with supernatural elements set in 1950s Los Angeles. The film also is loosely inspired by the life of Ramsey’s father, who was a jazz musician.
LeBron James is one of the film’s producers, along with Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson and Spencer Beighley.
Ramsey–co-director of 2018’s Spider–Man: Into the Spider–Verse–became the first Black filmmaker to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Blood Count is Ramsey’s second live-action film project.
Ramsey–who is also an illustrator–was the storyboard artist for such genre films as A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, Predator 2, Mortal Kombat, 1998’s Godzilla and Panic Room.
