Paramount Gives Official Green Light To ‘Smile’ Sequel

Smile…and the world smiles with you.

It was made official this week at CinemaCon: A sequel to last year’s horror hit Smile is in the pipeline, as Paramount Pictures confirmed what had been expected for some time now.

Writer/director Parker Finn recently expressed his feelings about a possible sequel, saying, “I think there are definitely things inside of the film that remain unexplored that would be very exciting to deal with. There also are things I didn’t get a chance to do on the first one for either budget constraints or it didn’t quite fit in the story.”

Smile–which hit theaters last September and immediately enjoyed box office success–follows Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) as she suffers through frightening experiences she can’t explain “after witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient,” according to the synopsis.

Then, things get even worse, and Cotter must confront “her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.” No details have yet been dropped about the storyline for the sequel.
