Outland Entertainment Rolls Out Horror Imprint ‘Outer Shadows’

by Thomas Tuna

Cullen Bunn is taking his horror tales in a new direction.

The award-winning comic book author has created a new imprint and publishing initiative for Outland Entertainment called Outer Shadows that will feature novels, novellas, short story collections and games–in addition to comics.

Several Outer Shadows projects are already in the works–including Swords in the Shadows, described as an anthology of sword-and-sorcery stories with horror themes. The book–being edited by Bunn–includes tales from such genre authors as Joe R. Lansdale, Brian Keene, Mary SanGiovanni and Stephen Graham Jones.

For this first publication, Bunn said he wanted “to showcase the broad scope of what a horror tale can be. Sword-and-sorcery has always been near and dear to me, so I wanted to bring that to the forefront. It’s a book that will have significant crossover appeal.”

Other upcoming projects include I’ll Kill You Last–an anthology of horror stories edited by Bunn that are set in the world of ’80s action movies. Plans also call for the publication of a collection of Bunn’s short fiction and a collection from Whispers from the Shattered Forum–the small press magazine Bunn edited more than 20 years ago.

“I have big plans for this imprint,” Bunn said. “I’m going to showcase horror from new creators, as well as from established horror favorites. And I’ll explore different mediums to bring the dread and chills.”
