Nicolas Cage Would Sink His Teeth Into Wolf Man Role

by Thomas Tuna

From vampire to werewolf? Nic Cage is up for it.

The Oscar winner will unveil his unique take on Dracula in the horror-comedy Renfield April 14, but it seems there’s at least one more Universal Monster he’d like to tackle before the full moon rises.

When asked in a recent interview with Screen Rant if he has his sights set on any other monstrous roles, Cage said, “I think the Wolf Man. Yeah, the Wolf Man is the scariest, and I think just powerfully tragic.”

But, he also acknowledged there may be a problem with that. “I think it’s been done many times,” he said. “I don’t think we’re making Wolf Man movies anymore. But, for what I’d like to explore, that works for me.”

Cage may be right about the Wolf Man concept in today’s cinematic landscape. Ryan Gosling has been toying with the idea for several years now–even lining up director Derek Cianfrance to replace Leigh Whannell on the project–but nothing has been heard about the film reboot for some time now.

In the meantime, the R-rated (and much-hyped) Renfield hits theaters in 10 days with Cage’s Dracula playing off star Nicholas Hoult in the title role. The film is directed by Chris McKay from a screenplay by Ryan Ridley.
