Next ‘Scream’ Entry Adds Henry Czerny To Ensemble Cast

Ghostface’s dance card is getting full.

Genre veteran Henry Czerny–perhaps best known to fans for his roles in The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Ready or Not–has joined the growing cast of next year’s Scream, according to a report on Deadline.

No details on Czerny’s role have been announced, but he joins the returning Courteney Cox, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown. Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega and Hayden Panettiere–alongside newcomers Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda and Josh Segarra.

One key cast member will not be back for the fun and games, however. Neve Campbell has declined to reprise her starring role of Sidney Prescott, saying the offer made to her “did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It’s been a very difficult decision to move on.”

Scream 6 (if that is, indeed, the title) will start filming this summer–toward a release date of March 31, 2023–with returning directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

Plot specifics are being kept under wraps for now, but the film will follow “the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter,” according to the logline. It’s believed their destination will be New York City, which should offer Ghostface and victims a whole new level of bloody encounters.
