Next ‘Hocus Pocus’ Reportedly “Still In The Story Phase”

There’s magic in the air.

There’s been no word on the upcoming Disney+ Hocus Pocus 3 for several months now–most likely due to the recently ended Hollywood writers’ strike–but returning screenwriter Jen D’Angelo recently dropped a few crumbs to Entertainment Weekly.

“We’re still in the story phase,” D’Angelo revealed. “We’re still working on some ideas, and it’s been fun to dive back into that world.”

One key idea for the next film, she added, may well include a deeper dive into Hannah Waddington’s mother witch character. “We’ve only scratched the surface of that character,” D’Angelo said.

But there’s still plenty of work for the writer–working with returning director Anne Fletcher–to tackle. “Hocus Pocus 3 is still very much in the early stages,” D’Angelo said. “We don’t really know what it is, but we’re exploring all options. We’re excited to continue these stories.”

Of course, a major hurdle will be rounding up the starring trio of Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy and getting them back in their witchy outfits. Nothing is written in stone at this point, but no doubt every effort will be made to return them to the fold.

Last year’s Hocus Pocus 2–a smash hit for Disney+–follows three high school students as they try to stop the Sanderson Sisters “from wreaking havoc on Salem before midnight on All Hallow’s Eve.”
