Deck the halls…and bust some ghosts!
The fifth entry in the Ghostbusters film franchise has been set for next Christmas–Dec. 20, 2023–according to a report on Deadline.
The as-yet untitled Sony Pictures film–a sequel to last year’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife–will be again be directed by Jason Reitman and written by Gil Kenan. The movie reportedly will return to the original film’s New York City and firehouse settings.
Afterlife scared up a lot of cash from box offices everywhere, pulling in almost $130 million domestically and nearly $200 million worldwide. That brings the total for the franchise to almost $940 million.
The horror-comedy franchise began back in 1984 with the original Ghostbusters from director Ivan Reitman and screenwriters (and stars) Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. That film–which was the No. 1 movie in theaters for seven consecutive weeks–wound up as the second-highest grossing film domestically that year.
