Are you ready for the new Big Ugly?
The next entry in the Alien horror-s/f franchise–currently going under the working title of Alien: Romulus–is expected to start shooting in Budapest, Hungary Feb. 6, 2023, according to a listing by the Film & Television Industry Alliance.
The new film–from Momentum and 20th Century Studios–is being directed by horror veteran Fede Alvarez (2013’s Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) from a screenplay he wrote with Rodo Sayagues. The feature–produced by Ridley Scott (who directed the original 1979 Alien classic)–is slated to air on Hulu on an undetermined date.
Little is known about the film at this early stage, but Cailee Spaeny (Pacific Rim: Uprising) reportedly is set to headline.
While the storyline is being kept secret right now, 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell said they wanted the project “purely off the strength of Fede’s pitch. It was just a really good story, with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before.”
