Netflix released a new (and probably final) trailer today for their highly anticipated manga adaptation Death Note.
The film was directed by Adam Wingard, known best for recent horror hits You’re Next and the Guest (and less known for the recent Blair Witch remake disaster.) Wingard was also recently named as the director for the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong film, due out in May of 2020. The script for Death Note was written by Charley & Vlas Parlapanides (Immortals) and Jeremy Slater (Fox’s The Exorcist).
For those unfamiliar with the source material, Death Note was originally written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. In the story, a high school student named Light is given a supernatural notebook from an evil spirit called Ryuk that grants him the ability to kill anyone he chooses, but he must know their name and also have seen their face (so it can, naturally, be written in the notebook). As expected, Light gets a little too “slap-happy” with his new power and attracts the attention of a deranged detective known as L.
Death Note premieres on Netflix on August 25th. As always, stay tuned to Horror News Network for all of your horror news as it breaks!
