“I call it…evil.”

The Pope’s Exorcist–a supernatural thriller from Screen Gems–will hit theaters in a couple of weeks, and a new trailer dropped this week that previews the tension-packed atmosphere of the feature. Check out the video on this page.

The R-rated film–set for theatrical release April 14–is based on the real-life, demon-filled exorcisms of Fr. Gabriele Amorth (played by Oscar winner Russell Crowe). Julius Avery directed the movie from a screenplay by Evan Spiliotopoulos.

Joining Crowe in the cast are Ralph Ineson (as the voice of the demon), Alex Essoe, Daniel Zovatto, Franco Nero, Laurel Marsden, Cornell S. John and Peter DeSouza-Feighoney.

The movie delves into the trials of Fr. Amorth, the famous Italian priest who reportedly performed more than 100,000 exorcisms for the Vatican. The priest’s bestselling memoirs–An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories–formed the basis for the screenplay.
