‘The Lighthouse’ Gets New Trailer

by Mark McCurley

Premiering today on YouTube, The Lighthouse has a chilling new trailer showcasing the suspense and despair of two men living in isolation.

In February 2016, Robert Eggers’ The Witch was released nationwide and shook audiences to the core with visceral imagery of a family living alongside a forest filled with witches in colonial New England. His latest feature is the story of two lighthouse keepers in 1890 who live on a remote island that must deal with loneliness, friendship and their deepest fears, including the uncertainty of how long it has been since they have been in the lighthouse.

The film stars Robert Pattinson (The Batman) and Willem Dafoe (Platoon, Shadow of the Vampire) as the two leads, Ephraim Winslow and Thomas Wake respectively.

Made using 35mm black-and-white film with camera and sound equipment from the 1920’s and 1940’s, The Lighthouse was written by Robert and his brother, Max Eggers.

After premiering at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19, the film has received acclaim from critics, currently holding a 93 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Lighthouse shines into theaters on October 18.
