Only the kooky Addams Family could turn the phrase “family vacation” into a series of eerie antics.
But that’s what makes Gomez, Tish and the rest of the slightly left-of-center brood so “mysterious and spooky”. And all that comes through in the first trailer–seen below–for The Addams Family 2, as reported by Deadline.
In the MGM sequel to the 2019 animated hit–scheduled to land in theaters Oct. 1–Morticia and Gomez decide to strengthen their bond with Wednesday and Pugsley by cramming everyone “into their haunted camper and hitting the road for one last miserable family vacation across America that takes them out of their element and into hilarious run-ins with many new characters.”
The sequel–directed by Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon from a screenplay by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit–features the voice talents of Charlize Theron (Morticia), Oscar Isaac (Gomez), Chloe Grace Moretz (Wednesday), Nick Kroll (Uncle Fester), Bette Midler (Grandmama), Javon Walton (Pugsley) and Snoop Dogg (Cousin Itt).
Tiernan pointed to the success of the first film as proof of “the enduring legacy of The Addams Family and its ability to transcend popular culture. This second film will be every bit as fun as the original.”
The original animated movie–based, of course, on the timeless New Yorker cartoons of Charles Addams–got high marks for its animation and performances, but received mixed reviews for the script. Still and all, the film killed at the box office, raking in $204 million on a $24-million budget.
