There be demons in the house.
The Fall of the House of Usher–the new small-screen adaptation of the 1839 Edgar Allan Poe short story–lands on Netflix just before Halloween, and a new (more detailed) synopsis arrived this week, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.
The eight-episode series–debuting Oct. 12–is the brainchild of writer/director Mike Flanagan (The Haunting series, Midnight Mass).
The storyline follows siblings Roderick (Bruce Greenwood) and Madeline Usher (Mary McDonnell), who have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into a thriving–if controversial–empire.
But when “a mysterious woman from their past–the shape-shifting demon known as Verna (Carla Gugino)–arrives to kill the heirs to the Usher dynasty, dark secrets emerge.”
The star-studded cast is rounded out by Carl Lumbly, Samantha Sloyan, Henry Thomas, T’Nia Miller, Mark Hamill and Kate Siegel.
