New Peacock Horror Series ‘Hysteria!’ Lands Lead

Satan invades Middle America.

Hysteria!–a “coming-of-age satanic thriller” series–is headed to Peacock, and this week an Emmy Award winner signed on in the lead role, according to a report on Deadline.

Julie Bowen (Modern Family) will star in the horror series, playing Linda Campbell, the mother of a teenage outcast who has to face the growing threat of satanism in her small Midwestern town. No debut date has yet been announced.

The series–written by executive producer Matthew Scott Kane–deals with the disappearance of a varsity quarterback during the Satanic Panic of the late 1980s, according to the synopsis. Following that disappearance, “a struggling high school heavy metal band realizes it can capitalize on the sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a satanic metal band.”

But then, “a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings and supernatural activity triggers a witch hunt that leads directly to the band.”

Jordan Vogt-Roberts is on board to direct the first episode, and John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein will serve as executive producers.
