The anticipation is ratcheting up for Marvel’s living vampire.
A new teaser for the upcoming Morbius horror flick dropped this week (in advance of a new trailer promised tomorrow), and in it, star Jared Leto gives fans the best look yet at the unique role he has stepped into.
The clip–courtesy of screenrant.com and seen on this page–has the Academy Award-winning actor teasing that the movie will open up a “web of opportunity.” Since the Marvel Comics character originally was a Spider-Man villain, could that mean the web-slinger may appear in this film or potential sequels down the line?

Morbius–directed by Daniel Espinosa from a screenplay by Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway–features Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, Tyrese Gibson and Michael Keaton, reprising his Spider-Man Universe role of Adrian Toomes, the high-flying Vulture. The Sony Pictures film is slated to land in theaters Jan. 28, 2022.
In the film, Leto plays Dr. Michael Morbius, who is “dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder”, but who is determined to save others from his fate. To this end, he tries a desperate gamble, but what, at first, appears to be a success “soon reveals itself to be a remedy worse than the disease.” Morbius is transformed into a “living vampire,” with the powers and insatiable thirst that comes with that curse.
The Marvel Comics character of Morbius–created by writer/editor Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane–first appeared in The Amazing Spider–Man No. 101 (1971). He later starred in the black-and-white Vampire Tales from 1973-1975.
