Zach Cregger is using all weapons at his disposal.
Cregger–the filmmaker behind last year’s surprise horror hit Barbarian–will write and direct Weapons, a new horror thriller that has been picked up by New Line Cinema for a theatrical release, according to a report on Deadline.
No casting choices have yet been announced, but the film is expected to start shooting this spring. No release window has been revealed.
The plot of the feature–produced by Cregger, Roy Lee, J.D. Lifshitz, Raphael Margules and Miri Yoon–is being kept under wraps, but it’s described as a “horror epic in the vein of Magnolia. It straddles thriller and horror–on a large scale.”
Barbarian–Cregger’s debut solo outing as a writer/director–topped the domestic box office in its opening weekend last fall, and went on to rake in more than $45 million worldwide on a $4.5 million budget.
New Line Cinema president Richard Brener said Cregger “proved with Barbarian that he can create a visceral theatrical experience for audiences, and that he commands every tool in the filmmaker’s tool belt.”
