New Image Surfaces From ‘Evil Dead Rise’ Before Spring Debut

Don’t look back–the Deadites may be gaining.

Evil Dead Rise–the next chapter in the horror film franchise from writer/director Lee Cronin–lands in theaters in four months, and a new image has dropped, courtesy of Total Film. Check it out on this page.

The horror pic–slated for release April 21, 2023–is “firmly in the (Evil Dead) universe,” Cronin told Total Film. “There are a lot of fun callbacks and some direct lines to the past. But part of the goal of making this movie was to create something that could expand the Evil Dead universe.”

Despite the fact that “there’s no Ash in this story and no cabin in the woods,” Cronin said, “the movie does include the book and an extraordinary amount of vicious, malevolent Deadites.” Nice trade-off.

Evil Dead Rise–produced by franchise staple Bruce Campbell–follows Beth as she visits her older sister Ellie in Los Angeles. But things quickly go south when they discover “a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building,” according to the synopsis.

This leads to the unleashing of hordes of “flesh-possessing demons,” and thrusts Beth into “a primal battle for survival–as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”

The film stars Alyssa Sutherland as Ellie and Lily Sullivan as Beth–along with Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, Mia Challis and Tai Wano.

Campbell has said he’s “very excited” about the new entry. It’s dark,” he said. “It’s a very adult Evil Dead movie. It’s pretty tough and hard-hitting. It’s going to creep you out.”
