Meg 2: The Trench–the amped-up sequel to the 2018 horror pic–will terrorize the big screen this summer, and a new image–courtesy of Fandango–shows just how much trouble Jason Statham is in this time around.
The PG-13-rated pic–set for a theatrical release Aug. 4–is directed by Ben Wheatley from a screenplay by Dean Georgaris and Eric and Jon Hoeber.
Statham reprises his lead role, and he’s joined by Cliff Curtis, Shuya Sophia Cai, Page Kennedy, Wu Jing, Sienna Guillory, Skyler Samuels and Sergio Peris-Mencheta.
The original The Meg–directed by Jon Turtelbaum and based on Steve Alten’s 1997 Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror–follows a U.S. Navy diver (Statham) as he tries to rescue several scientists from a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark known as a megalodon. The film made quite a splash at the box office, earning $330 million on a $150-million budget.
