New Image, Details Revealed For Jordan Peele’s ‘Nope’

by Thomas Tuna

Jordan Peele lifts the curtain (a bit) on his next summertime horror flick.

Nope–Peele’s third foray into the world of the strange and unusual (following Get Out and Us)–has remained something of a mystery to fandom (despite one teaser trailer). But this week, an image of star Daniel Kaluuya from the film was unveiled. Check out the photo–courtesy of Empire magazine–on this page.

From what Peele said in a recent interview, Kaluuya (Get Out) was a key element in his plans for this movie. “I wrote Nope with Daniel in mind for the role,” the filmmaker said. “A humble man destined for an epic and otherworldly confrontation.”

Peele praised Kaluuya’s approach to his film roles. “Daniel’s craft is on a different level,” Peele said, “but it’s his warmth that grounds audiences even during points of absolute madness. You may be watching a nightmare, but when he’s on screen, at least you’ve got your brother with you–and that’s all you need.”

Nope–written, directed and produced by Peele–follows residents in a lonely gulch of inland California as they “bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery,” according to the logline. The film will hit theaters July 22.

The film–part of a five-year production partnership between Universal Pictures and Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions–also stars Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Keke Palmer (Scream), Michael Wincott (The Crow), Barbara Ferreira (Euphoria), Brandon Perea (The OA) and MoCap performer Terry Notary (Avengers films).
