What’s lurking in the dark?

Insidious: The Red Door–the fifth entry in the popular horror franchise–will hit the big screen this summer, and an enigmatic photo of star (and director) Patrick Wilson dropped this week. Check it out on this page.

The film–slated for a July 7 theatrical release–also stars Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins, Sinclair Daniel, Peter Dager and Hiam Abbass. The screenplay was handled by Scott Teems.

The Red Door picks up a decade after the second film in the series, as Dalton Lambert (Simpkins) starts his college career. Wilson will reprise his familiar Josh Lambert role, in addition to sitting in the director’s chair.

Producer James Wan said he is “super excited for what Patrick’s doing with Insidious. Patrick reminds me of Leigh Whannell–in that they’re not just actors slash whatever, but they’re filmmakers as well. They’re film buffs, and they look at acting from the point of view of what the final film will be like.”

The original 2010 Insidious–directed by Wan from a Whannell screenplay–follows a couple whose son falls into a comatose state–becoming a vessel for entities in an astral dimension known as The Further.
