Folk horror finds the morgue.
Abyzou–a new horror flick from Millennium Media–was acquired for distribution by Decal out of the recent Cannes Film Festival and will land in theaters later this year, according to a report on Deadline.
In the film–directed by Oliver Park from a screenplay by Hank Hoffman–the son of a Jewish funeral director returns home with his pregnant wife, hoping to reconcile with his Orthodox father, according to the logline.
But his good intentions are put to the test when the family morgue receives “a mysterious corpse containing an ancient entity with a sinister plan for his unborn child.”
The feature–starring Nick Blood (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Emm Wiseman (Winchester), Allan Corduner (Homeland) and Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones)–is produced by Jeffrey Greenstein, Les Weldon, Sam Schulte and Yariv Lerner.
Decal’s Sara Castillo called the movie “a chilling tale that mixes Jewish mythology with universally terrifying folk horror,” adding that it delivers “classic twists and turns that every horror fan desires.”
