Go climb a tree–but not that one.
Starve Acre–described as a “brooding folk horror feature”–has been picked up by Brainstorm Media for North America distribution, according to Variety.
The film–from writer/director Daniel Kokotajlo–is based on the Andrew Michael Hurly novel, and stars Matt Smith (House of the Dragon) and Morfydd Clark (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power). Producers include Tessa Ross, Juliette Howell, Derrin Shlesinger and Emma Duffy.
The movie–set in rural England in the 1970s–finds Richard and Juliette living at their remote family home–Starve Acre–when their son starts acting out of character. So, Richard begins to explore a myth that the ancient oak tree on the property “is imbued with phenomenal powers.”
An unexpected discovery soon occupies the couple’s attention, and “dark and sinister forces–unwittingly allowed into their home–present a disturbing possibility of a bond between them.”
