New Disney Werewolf Special Reportedly Lands Director

by Thomas Tuna

The full moon may be smiling down on that rumored Halloween werewolf special headed for Disney+.

The horror project–believed to be an adaptation of the Werewolf by Night Marvel comic book series–reportedly has found its director, according to thecosmiccircus.com. And it’s an interesting choice.

Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino (SpiderManNo Way HomeThe Batman) seems ready to step behind the cameras and helm the werewolf project. It also was reported that filming will begin at the end of March, with the production schedule expected to last only a few weeks. If true, that may mean the film will not be a typical large-scale MCU effort. Stay tuned.

The spooky special–slated for an October debut–already has Gael Garcia Bernal (M. Night Shyamalan’s Old) lined up as its lead, as reported here in Horror News Network, along with Laura Donnelly (The Nevers) on board in an as-yet-undefined role.

All of this makes a good deal of sense, given that Moon Knight–whose Disney+ six-episode series will debut March 30–first appeared in an early issue of Werewolf by Night. Could a certain werewolf make a cameo appearance in the Moon Knight series? Once again, don’t change that channel.

The original Marvel Werewolf by Night (Jack Russell) character–created by writers Roy Thomas and Gerry Conway and artist Mike Ploog–first appeared in Marvel Spotlight No2 in 1972, before earning his own series that ran for 43 issues until 1977.
