You should probably run.

M3GAN–the upcoming Universal Pictures horror entry based on a story by genre legend James Wan–hits the big screen in a month, and the second trailer is now here. Check out the disturbing video on this page.

The feature–which lands in theaters Jan. 6, 2023–is directed by Gerard Johnstone from a screenplay by Akela Cooper, who recently said she has always been a big fan of the Child’s Play franchise. “It was always my dream to create an iconic monster of my own,” she said. And thus, the lifelike–and deadly–M3GAN was born.

The film follows Gemma (Allison Williams), a roboticist at a toy company “who uses artificial intelligence to develop a doll that’s programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally,” according to the synopsis.

As the story progresses, Gemma gains custody of her orphaned niece Cady, and uses the M3GAN prototype to help her cope with the death of her parents. But, as time goes by, the android becomes “increasingly independent–and violent towards anyone who poses a threat to Cady.”

The movie also stars Ronny Chieng, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Lori Dungey and Stephanie Garneau-Moriten.
