Hysteria: exaggerated or uncontrollable emotion. Or worse.
Hysteria!--described as a “satanic thriller series”–continues to flesh out its cast, following the announcement of lead Julie Bowen last week.
The Peacock series–which doesn’t yet have a debut date–this week added Anna Camp (True Blood) as a series regular, according to a report on Deadline. Camp reportedly will play Tracy Whitehead, a “crusading Midwestern mother who has been the laughingstock of her community for years due to her extreme religious beliefs.”
Bowen stars as Linda Campbell, the mother of a teenage outcast who has to face the growing threat of satanism in her small town.
The series–written by showrunner David A. Goodman–deals with the disappearance of a varsity quarterback during the Satanic Panic of the late 1980s and a high school heavy metal band that capitalizes on the craze. But then, “a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings and supernatural activity triggers a witch hunt that leads to the band.”
Jordan Vogt-Roberts will direct the first episode, and John Francis Daley, Matthew Scott Kane and Jonathan Goldstein will serve as executive producers.
