New ‘Alien’ Film Is Set Between First Two Entries In Franchise

Let’s hope this is a comfortable fit

Alien: Romulus–the next installment in the classic horror-s/f Alien film franchise–will land in theaters next summer, and now fans know where this new film slides into the series timeline.

The new feature–from director Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead) from a screenplay he wrote with Rodo Sayagues–is set between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986), according to one of the film’s stars, Cailee Spaeny.

The actor recently told Variety that the 20th Century Studio movie–that wrapped production over the summer and will hit the big screen Aug. 16, 2024–“will slot in between the first movie and the second movie.”

Spaeny added that the filmmakers “brought in the same team from Aliens. The same people who built those Xenomorphs actually built ours. Getting to see the original design with the original people who have been working on these films for 45 years has been really incredible.”

Alien: Romulus--produced by Alien director Ridley Scott–also stars Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu.

Plot details have not yet been revealed, but it’s been reported that the storyline follows a group of young people on a distant world who “find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.” Wonder what that could be.
