Sidney Prescott is officially retired.

Hot on the heels of Jenna Ortega’s revelation that the next Scream entry will be gorier than ever, Deadline today confirmed the news that will send shockwaves through horror fandom–Neve Campbell will not be a part of the mayhem to come.

Campbell–who has been Ghostface’s main nemesis for the first five films in the popular horror franchise– said, “Sadly, I won’t be making the next Scream film.”

The actor continued to say that “as a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value–especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”

In acknowledging this was a “very difficult decision to move on,” Campbell added, “to all my Scream fans, I love you. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise have given me over the past 25 years.”

As for her future plans, Campbell has joined Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz and Thomas Haden Church in the cast of Peacock’s Twisted Metal adaptation.

Scream 6 will continue with Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Hayden Panettiere and legacy star Courteney Cox. The film–scheduled for a March 31, 2023 release–is directed again by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.
