Pacific Rim, the world of monster v mech has officially crossed from the big screen to anime. Guillermo del Toro’s sci-fi monster movie of 2013, Pacific Rim, paid homage to the mecha anime and Kaiju movies that started in Japan. With the likes of Godzilla, Gamera, and King Kong, it’s safe to say that the new Pacific Rim has some rather large shoes to fill in this category.

Pacific Rim: The Black was originally announced in 2018, with the title officially released in 2020 and now Netflix has announced that Pacific Rim: The Black will be debuting on March 4th. Netflix has also released a one-minute teaser with a distinct post-apocalyptic feel to it. With many mentions of breaches and Kaiju taking over the content of Australia, two new protagonists, brother and sister Taylor and Hayley, gear up and get ready to drift–the mental merging process of the co-piloting the giant Jaeger mechs.
Pacific Rim: The Black is the first of a several anime that Netflix has taken on including Kong: Skull Island and Tomb Raider.
Craig Kyle of Marvel Comics and Greg Johnson of Marvel animation will serve as showrunners for Pacific Rim: The Black, with Polygon Pictures doing the animation.
