Netflix To Release Volume 2 Of ‘Unsolved Mysteries’ In October

by Thomas Tuna

Netflix apparently knows when it has a good thing. The streamer this week set a return date for its rebooted Unsolved Mysteries, announcing a second batch of six episodes.

Volume 2 of Unsolved Mysteries–coming on the heels of the successful first volume of a half-dozen episodes that debuted July 1–will air Oct. 19, as reported by

As the official synopsis explains, the show deals with ordinary people “who have lived the unthinkable. Alongside detectives and journalists, family members offer clues, present theories and identify suspects–hoping one viewer holds the key to solving the mystery.”

The initial episodes reportedly were very effective (as well as entertaining), with viewers sending credible tips into the show that were viable enough to relay to the FBI.

Those first six episodes- Mystery on the RooftopNo Ride HomeBerkshire’s UFOHouse of HorrorMissing Witness and 13 Minutes–were directed by Marcus A. Clarke, Clay Jeter and Jimmy Goldblum.

Few details about the upcoming Volume 2 have been revealed, but it is known that at least two of the mysteries will have international backdrops, and that one episode will be a ghost story.

The show–from Cosgrove/Meurer Productions and 21 Laps Entertainment–has Terry Dunn Meurer, John Cosgrove, Robert M. Wise, Shawn Levy and Josh Barry as executive producers.

Cosgrove and Meurer–creators of the original show–said in a statement that the 1987 series evolved from three specials produced for NBC in 1985 called Missing: Have You Seen This Person? “When seven of those missing persons cases were solved as the result of viewer tips, we began considering whether we could solve additional types of cases…(including) murders, UFOs and other paranormal stories and even unexplained creatures. This combination of stories became Unsolved Mysteries.”

The original series–with host Robert Stack–ran on NBC from 1987-1997. It then was picked up by CBS for two seasons, by Lifetime from 2001-2002 and by Spike from 2008-2010.
