With a trove of original content on the horizon, Netflix’s latest deal comes with its adaptation of the comic book Reborn getting Bek Smith as a screenwriter, which was announced by The Hollywood Reporter.
Smith has come from the writers program at Marvel, where she worked on production rewrites for the feature film Captain Marvel, and is attached to a Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse spin-off movie and an adaptation of Vertigo comic book 100 Bullets.
Based on the comic book by creator Mark Millar (Kick-Ass) and Greg Capullo (Spawn), Reborn is the story of a woman named Bonnie Black who dies in a hospital at 80 years old. She awakens to find she is reborn as a much younger version of herself in Adystria, a mystical land of the afterlife that holds her family and friends, along with monsters and dragons, locked in an endless war between good and evil forces. When she realizes her husband who had also passed away is nowhere to be found, she sets out with her late father, childhood dog and a sword on a quest to find him somewhere in the mysterious area of battle.
With Chris McKay (The Lego Batman Movie) on board as director, Sandra Bullock (Bird Box) will produce the film under her Fortis Films banner.
