“I’m gonna need extra danger pay for this.”
Gamera: Rebirth–a new six-episode animated Netflix series–recently dropped a dramatic poster, and now, the first trailer has arrived. Check out the action-packed video on this page.
The series–slated to debut sometime later this year (stay tuned for an exact date)–is now in production. Set in the summer of 1989, the anime spotlights the giant, fire-breathing prehistoric turtle kaiju.
In the show, elementary school students Boko, Joe and Junichi witness the kaiju Gyaos attack Tokyo. As the monster zeroes in on them, another monster appears: Gamera. But several other behemoths quickly follow, and Gamera is forced to fight back against all odds.
Gamera–last seen in 2006’s Gamera the Brave–was created by Daiei Films to compete with Toho’s Godzilla. The monstrous turtle debuted back in 1965 in Gamera, the Giant Monster (simple, but it says it.).
Gamera is unique in one very special way. The kaiju can actually fly (as shown in the trailer)–using “jets” that can be ignited from its limb holes. Brings a whole new meaning to “jumbo jet”.
