NECA Unwraps Ultimate Mummy Figure For 90th Anniversary

by Thomas Tuna

Be careful with those ancient bandages around the birthday cake candles.

The 1932 Universal classic The Mummy will celebrate its 90th anniversary next year, and NECA will mark the occasion by rolling out a black-and-white Ultimate Figure of Boris Karloff’s legendary creation. Check out the photos of the action figure, courtesy of news.toyark.com, on this page.

Pre-orders for this striking seven-inch collectible are now live with a price tag of $42.99. The figure–which includes three swap-out portraits, interchangeable hands, additional bandages, a scroll, a hieroglyphics tablet and an Egyptian chest that opens–will release in June of 2022.

The action figure accurately depicts Karloff as he starred in the immortal tale of “love transcending death,” swathed in the special effects makeup that took eight hours to apply and another two hours to remove.

The Mummy–directed by Karl Freund from a screenplay by John L. Balderston (adapted from a story by Nina Wilcox Putnam and Richard Schayer)–stars Karloff, Zita Johann, David Manners, Edward Van Sloan and Arthur Byron.

The film–which received mixed reviews upon its release, but is now regarded as one of the true horror classics–follows the ancient Egyptian mummy Imhotep as it is brought back to life through a magic scroll. Imhotep, disguised as a modern Egyptian, searches for his lost love, who he believes has been reincarnated.
