NECA Toy Fair 2022: Full Review of Horror Reveals

by Sean McLaughlin

For the second year in a row, The Toy Association cancelled New York Toy Fair due to concerns related to the global pandemic.  But the crew over at NECA made sure their fans and the entire horror community had their annual blood lust satiated all the same.  With their virtual NECA Toy Fair 2022, emanating from their social media accounts in hourly intervals over the Presidents Day weekend, the new license and figure reveals came fast and furious.

Here are the horror-themed highlights from the folks at NECA, giving collectors and the horror fans a lot to look forward to in the next 12 months.

Not sure in what form or line this will be coming from, but damn it we NEED a Krampus piece!  This Krampus figure will be the bloody gift that keeps on giving the entire year (or at least until Halloween)……

The Toony Terrors line will see two awesome debuts in 2022!  The Halloween III: Season of the Witch 3-pack has the pint-sized punks in the doomed Halloween masks in their first form outside of a straight action figure.  Fun for the entire family!

Another license that does not (yet) receive the love it should is An American Werewolf in London, but NECA is looking to change all that.  This upcoming 2-pack features David in full werewolf form, along with former best friend, reluctant victim and current zombie vision Jack.  Beware the moon, folks.

Fans of Predator will have a couple of new figures to hunt for in 2022.   The massive Stone Heart from the 2005 video game Concrete Jungle stands over 10” tall with LED lights and over 30 points of articulation.  And the Shaman Predator from Lost Tribe is ready to interpret your dreams while simultaneous haunting them.  Look for both on store shelves in the fall!

As reported on Sunday by HNN’s Thomas Tuna, John Carpenter’s classic The Thing will get another NECA release, hot on the heels of last year’s ultimate R.J. MacReady Outpost 7” figure.  Here comes the “dog creature”, featuring multiple shape-shifting forms to keep you guessing!

Back at NY Toy Fair 2020, NECA proudly displayed their massive Gremlins movie theater playset complete with dozens of the creatures dressed and interacting with even more accessories.  In August of this year, their first accessory pack (complete with 2 Gizmo mini-figures) will hit store shelves and online retailers for fig photography perfection.

Finally, in one of the coolest cross-promotion among NECA’s stable of licenses ever, those green menaces will be getting a spooky makeover!  The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line have been wildly successful for NECA, but while collectors and kids gravitate towards the turtles the horror crowd mostly stayed away.  Well that all changes in 2022, as the heroes in a half-shell will be given identities from the Universal Monsters line.  First up is Michelangelo as The Mummy, complete with an assortment of weapons and accessories.  This looks incredibly cool and, more importantly, incredibly collectible.  This line will be a hot seller at Target and everywhere else, so scoop them up whenever you can.  While the TMNT crossover with The Karate Kid/Cobra Kai received a lukewarm response, that won’t happen here.  Turtle/Monster Power!
