NECA Promotes Its ‘American Werewolf’ Figures With Eerie Stop-Action Movie Scene

by Thomas Tuna

There is definitely a bad moon rising.

NECA this week dropped a unique marketing tool–a brief stop-action video showing its Kessler Wolf and Nightmare Demon action figures straight from the classic 1981 An American Werewolf in London. Check out the video, courtesy of screenrant.com, on this page.

David Kessler’s riveting transformation scene in the film is widely considered a benchmark for man-into-werewolf sequence, and NECA’s attempt to recreate that frightening moment certainly makes an impression. The two seven-inch action figures are currently shipping.

The original horror/comedy–written and directed by John Landis–stars David Naughton, Jenny Agutter, Griffin Dunne and John Woodvine, and follows two American backpackers–David and Jack–who are attacked by a werewolf in England.

The film–a critical and commercial success–won the Saturn Award for Best Horror Film and an Academy Award for Best Makeup for the eye-popping transformation effects of Rick Baker. The movie also earned an impressive $62 million on a $6-million budget.
