MPAA Gives ‘The Strangers Chapter 1’ an R Rating

We weren’t surprised by this rating.

The Motion Picture Association ratings board has declared that The Strangers Chapter 1 has earned an R rating for “horror violence, language and brief drug use.”

The official synopsis of the film reads: “After their car breaks down in an eerie small town, a young couple are forced to spend the night in a remote cabin. Panic ensues as they are terrorized by three masked strangers who strike with no mercy and seemingly no motive.”

Directed by Renny Harlin, The Strangers Chapter 1 stars Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale), Froy Gutierrez (Hocus Pocus 2), Rachel Shenton (The Silent Child), Ema Horvath (Rings of Power) and Gabe Basso (Hillbilly Elegy) star.

The movie that kicked off the franchise, The Strangers, was released on May 30, 2008. The film was directed by Bryan Bertino and starred Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman.
