‘Mosquito State’ Infests The Summer Lineup On Shudder

by Thomas Tuna

With summer around the corner, can ever-pesky mosquitoes be far behind?

Try not to think of those annoying insects as Shudder unleashes hordes of them Aug. 26 with Mosquito State to wrap up the horror streamer’s Summer of Chills event, as reported by rue-morgue.com.

An award-winning entry at the last Venice Film Festival, Mosquito State is directed by Filip Jan Rymsza from a screenplay he wrote with Mario Zermeno. The horror flick stars Beau Knapp, Charlotte Vega, Jack Kesy and Olivier Martinez.

Mosquito State follows obsessive Wall Street data analyst Richard Boca (Knapp) in his isolated and austere Central Park penthouse as he starts to notice ominous patterns. His computer models begin to behave erratically, “as are swarms of mosquitoes breeding in his apartment–an infestation that attends his psychological meltdown.”

Shudder general manager Craig Engler called Mosquito State “a masterful allegory for the 2007 financial crisis–Wall Street meets The Fly. Filip Jan Rymsza is in command of the ominous, building psycho-horror throughout the film. We cannot wait for our audience to experience it.”
