The MCU is about to get more monstrous.
The much-hyped Marvel Studios Werewolf by Night Halloween special–slated to hit Disney+ Oct. 7–will only be the tip of the iceberg. More creature features are on the drawing board for Marvel, according to a report on comicbook.com.
Producer Brian Gay–in discussing the upcoming special in a recent interview –said “one of the very cool things about the special is it’s just peeling back the corner of monsters in the MCU. So, there’s not just the monsters that are part of Werewolf by Night, but the ones that were up on the wall.”
As Gay explained, “what this leads to is the idea that for centuries, there have been monsters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And they’ve been being tracked or hunted–or kept at bay by these hunters.”
It’s unknown at this time when or where fans will see this rich history of monsters–including Man-Thing (expected to debut in Werewolf by Night), Manphibian, the Living Mummy and Devil Dinosaur–in either TV specials or on the big screen.
While horror fans wait for this influx of Marvel monsters, the Werewolf by Night Disney+ special–directed by Michael Giacchino from a script by Peter Cameron (Moon Knight) and Heather Quinn (Hawkeye)–should fill the bill.
The special will follow a secret group of monster hunters that gathers at the Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader, only to be thrust into a deadly competition for a powerful relic. A hunt that will “bring them face-to-face with a dangerous monster,” according to the synopsis.
