Monstrous ‘Beast’ Stalks Its Prey In Wilds Of Africa

by Thomas Tuna

The jungle just got a new king–and he’s in a bad mood.

Beast–a survival horror film from Universal Pictures–will prowl theaters starting Aug. 19, and a trailer dropped this week that gives a good look at the feline terrors to come. Check out the video–courtesy of screenrant.com–on this page.

The film–directed by Baltasar Kormakur (Contraband) from a screenplay by Ryan Engle (Rampage)–stars Golden Globe Award winner Idris Elba as Dr. Nate Samuels, a “recently widowed husband who returns to South Africa–where he met his wife–on a trip with their daughters to a game preserve,” according to the logline.

But what starts out as a journey of healing becomes “a fearsome fight for survival when a lion–a survivor of bloodthirsty poachers that now sees all humans as the enemy–begins stalking them.”

The cast also includes Sharlto Copey as Martin Battles, Iyana Halley as Samuels’ 18-year-old daughter Meredith and Leah Sava Jeffries as his 13-year-old daughter Norah.

Beast–filmed in the provinces of Limpopo and Northern Cape in Cape Town–was produced by Will Packer and James Lopez, with Jaime Primak Sullivan and Bernard Bellew serving as executive producers.
